Distemper is 100% Preventable with Annual Vaccinations
A recent Distemper outbreak at a St. Louis rescue organization has caused hundreds of dogs to become very ill. This is heartbreaking and is a sad reminder of the importance of annual vaccinations.
What is Distemper
Distemper is a virus which is spread through the air and by contact (bowls, bedding, etc) with an infected animal. The virus starts by attacking a dog’s tonsils and lymph nodes, and moves on to attack the respiratory, urogenital, gastrointestinal, and nervous systems. And it can be fully prevented by protecting your pet with vaccines.
VIP Petcare cares about the long-term health of your pet and recommends a comprehensive vaccination package to fully protect your pets throughout their life. If you currently only have a rabies vaccine for your pet, you may want to reconsider getting some additional protection. VIP Petcare offers a 5-in-1 vaccine that protects your dog from five diseases, including, Distemper, Parvovirus, Adenovirus, Hepatitis and Parainfluenza.
What you will find in our CANINE vaccination packages (Note: this will vary depending on the age of your dog):
5-in-1 (DA2P + PARVOVIRUS) protects your dog from contracting Distemper virus, Adenovirus type 1 and type 2, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus. These are forms of liver, respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases.
Lepto 4 (Leptospirosis 4-way) protects your pet from L. canicola, L. icterohaemorrhagiae, L. pomona and L. grippotyphosa, which are forms of a bacteria that can cause kidney or liver damage. Your dog can contract this disease from wild and domestic animals, including rats. Both dogs and humans contract this disease through contact with infected animals or through leptospira-contaminated drinking water.
Bordetella protects your dog from contracting infectious tracheobronchitis, or more well known as Kennel cough.
A fecal test is an intestinal parasite screening; it tests for many different types of intestinal parasites including the most common parasites, Coccidia, Giardia, Whipworm, Tapeworm, Hookworm and Roundworm.
Deworm, or more specifically, the Roundworm/Hookworm dewormer, is a liquid oral medication that deworms what is in the system currently, and is included in all Puppy Packs. A year-round preventative medication is recommended to prevent it from coming back. Talk to a veterinarian for more information about prevention.
Rabies is required by law in nearly every state. This can be added to any canine vaccination package for only $10!
Vaccinations are the best way to keep your dog healthy and safe. And testing for disease can also ensure early detection and help get treatment in a timely manner to make sure that your pet has the best possible chance of recovering to full health.
